In the early 1990s, as we packed up our handmade goods for the Saturday Market, we found ourselves facing a sticky problem. Our salt scrubs—though effective and beloved—were messy. Our original version was highly viscous and housed in heavy, glass jars with flip lids. These jars were not only impractical for transport (especially to bustling craft shows), but they were also prone to leaks and breakage. We knew we needed a better solution: something portable, mess-free, and just as luxurious and effective.
So, we got to work. We reimagined our salt scrub recipe, blending in rich butter oils to create a more stable, scoopable texture—something that held up in transit and stayed on your skin, not on your shower floor. In 1994, we debuted our invention at the Saturday Market and Circle Craft show. We called it Body Gelato®, and it’s been a fan favourite ever since.
What is Body Gelato®?
Body Gelato® is a natural body scrub handcrafted with sea salts, cocoa butter, & shea butter. Available in scents from floral to fruity, it’s designed to exfoliate, hydrate, and soften the skin—without the slippery, oily mess of traditional salt scrubs. Over 31 years later, it remains one of our most iconic creations.

How to Use Body Gelato®
In the shower:
Scoop a small amount into a shower-safe container. On clean, wet skin, gently massage the scrub in circular motions, working from the neck down and up the legs. Rinse with warm water (not hot), and avoid freshly shaved or irritated areas. For best results, follow with your favourite body oil or lotion while skin is still slightly damp.
As a bath soak:
Add ½–1 cup of Body Gelato to warm bath water for a skin-softening soak. Relax for 15–20 minutes and emerge nourished head to toe. Caution: surfaces may become slippery.
As a hand or foot treatment:
Before bed, exfoliate dry hands or feet with Body Gelato, rinse, and follow with a rich lotion. Wake up to noticeably softer skin.
As a lip scrub:
Once a week, mix a pinch of Body Gelato with water and gently exfoliate your lips. Rinse thoroughly. Avoid overuse.
*Storage tip: Remember to store in a cool, dark place, and use within 3 – 6 weeks of purchase. Store in refrigerator to prolong freshness of scrub and extend shelf life.
