From humble beginnings

Our story begins long before Saltspring Soapworks did: Four generations ago with a grandmother and a farm. Using beef tallow and ash, she handcrafted soap—a legacy that was handed down to her granddaughter and our founder, Linda Quiring. The simplicity of our beginnings remains the essence of our remedies today.

Are these products suitable for all skin types?

Most people enjoy them, but those with very sensitive, broken, or recently shaved skin should be cautious or avoid until healed. Always patch test new exfoliants and moisturize well afterward.

Do your scrubs contain natural exfoliants or microbeads?

We use natural physical exfoliants: fine sugar crystals or sea salt. No plastic microbeads are ever used.

Can I use scrubs on my face?

No—our body scrubs and Body Gelato's are formulated for the thicker skin of the body (arms, legs, torso, feet). They are too abrasive for facial skin. Use our gentle Face Cleanser and other Face Care products for the face.

How often should I use a body scrub or Gelato?

1–3 times per week is ideal for most people. Over-exfoliating can irritate skin. Listen to your skin—if it feels smooth and happy, once a week may suffice. Use less frequently on sensitive or thin skin areas.

What is the difference between Body Gelato, sugar scrubs, and sea salt scrubs?

Our Body Gelatos have a granular dryer texture that feels indulgent and less abrasive while still exfoliating and moisturizing. Sugar scrubs (like our Citrus Sugar Scrub) offer gentle, sweet exfoliation with fine sugar crystals. Sea salt scrubs (like Grapefruit Sea Salt Scrub) provide a slightly coarser, more invigorating polish with mineral-rich salt. All of these leave skin silky smooth.

it is so full of fragrance that is real, not a chemical fake. Exfoliates your skin gently and leaves it with a light soft coating of oil. Just be sure to clean your shower floor so you don't cause someone to slip.

This is the first skin scrub I’ve found in my 45 years that actually does make me feel “energized”. The wonderful orange scent isn’t overwhelming and the scrub makes my skin so soft that I can even go without the usual lotion I need for my dry skin. Not that I would skip the wonderful rhubarb citrus lotion from Salt Springs though!

I've been obsessed with this scrub since I first discovered it on a trip to Salt Spring Island a few years ago. I love the texture of the scrub and the smell is divine. It leaves my skin feeling moisturized, so I don't have to apply lotion after a shower. I always buy 2 or 3 at a time so I never run out!

Delicious Exfoliant

I picked this up from a local Spa and I love it so much. I don't generally care for exfoliants but the oils and sugar are amazing and smell like lemon iced tea.
To my great sadness it has been sold out since some time in the summer! I've been using my current pot of it sparingly so I don't run out too quickly.

Luxury moisturizer

I can not be without this product. I use it in the shower, after I’m all clean,Sugar is the magic, salt scrubs make my hands burn. It’s so simple and my skin LOVES IT! I turn the water off briefly while I scrub and moisturize then rinse. My skin feels great, no dry patches!! It’s the only scented skin product I use, it smells so yummy and doesn’t hurt my skin!! It lasts a couple of months. Thank you for another fabulous product!!!
