From humble beginnings

Our story begins long before Saltspring Soapworks did: Four generations ago with a grandmother and a farm. Using beef tallow and ash, she handcrafted soap—a legacy that was handed down to her granddaughter and our founder, Linda Quiring. The simplicity of our beginnings remains the essence of our remedies today.

How long will a bottle of washes last?

In our home a 500ml bottle will last several weeks.

Are your body washes sulphate-free and gentle on skin?

Yes! All our washes are formulated without sodium lauryl sulfate or other harsh sulphates. We use mild, plant-based surfactants (alkylpolyglucosides and cocamidopropyl betaine) that cleanse effectively while being kind to skin and the planet. Many include soothing herbal blends and hydrating ingredients like white camellia extract and hyaluronic acid.

What scents do your washes come in and how would you describe them?

We offer a range of uplifting and soothing scents: Rosemary Mint (herbaceous, crisp, cooling, invigorating), Lavender Eucalyptus (soothing, hydrating, calming), Cypress Fir (calming, grounding), Lemongrass Orange (rejuvenating, fresh, citrusy), Rose Ginseng (nourishing, soothing), Mango Lime (fresh, cleansing), and others that are more seasonal like Cranberry Orange or Vanilla Frankincense. Each is crafted primarily with essential oils for an authentic
aromatic experience.

How do I use the liquid washes? Do they work well in hard water?

Apply a small amount to wet hands or body, lather, and rinse. They perform well in most water conditions. The 1L and 4L sizes are perfect for refilling for family showers or sinks—add our dedicated pumps for mess-free dispensing. Travel sizes are ideal for gym bags or carry-on.

Can I use the body wash on my face?

Our washes are primarily formulated for hands and body. While gentle, they may be too cleansing or have essential oil concentrations better suited for body use than on facial skin. For face, we recommend our dedicated Face Care Collection (cleanser, toner, creams, serum).

What sizes are available and which is the best value?

Standard (~500mL), Travel Size, 1 Liter, and 4 Liter refills. The larger sizes offer excellent value for regular users or households and reduce packaging waste and offer greater value per liter. Pair 1L/4L with our matching pumps for easy use. Many customers start with the standard 500ml size to try a new scent.

Do your washes dry out skin?

No—they are designed to be hydrating. Formulas include vegetable glycerine, hemp seed oil, panthenol (vitamin B5), and other moisturizing ingredients that help leave skin clean yet soft and cared-for, not tight or dry.

Are the washes biodegradable and eco-friendly?

Yes, our washes are biodegradable and made with an emphasis on being easy on your hands, body, and the planet. The plant-derived surfactants and natural ingredients support this commitment.

Can I buy pumps separately for the refill sizes?

Absolutely. We offer dedicated pumps for both the 1 Liter and 4 Liter bottles. They make dispensing easy and hygienic in the shower or at the sink.

I like this body wash smell but it would be

I like this body wash smell but it would be better with less vanilla smell and more Frankincense or possibly a Frankincense & Muir combo. Still love all your products though :)

Brilliant smell and soft to use

I love this soap, the scent is subtle and mildly spicy - I'm not so good with floral scents. My husband also prefers it for his own use! Been using this for at least a year, along with the skin lotion on the days when I body-wash, rather then shower. Works great with scrubbing gloves, loofah, or a body puff.

Beautiful and warm smelling - perfect for West Coast Tainy days

This was a last minute choice was in addition to my usual ones - the Clay mask and soaps . What a BEAUTIFUL product! I loved it so much I ordered more for some for Xmas gifts … and a few for me ♥️

Intoxicating

This is my favourite body wash and scent. The vanilla frankincense is intoxicating and luxurious. Its great for daily use in the shower. I even use 2 or 3 pumps in my son’s bath and it works great as a bubble bath. Highly recommend.

Overpowering Frankincense

I was excited about this scent and really enjoy vanilla, but the frankincense was overpowering even in the shipping box. Unfortunately I found the smell of the mix to be awful and I wish I could have exchanged it.

Vanilla and spice is nice!

I love this vanilla scented wash. Gentle on hands with a nice fragrance. It’s in my bedroom bathroom for an aroma therapy experience.

The Best scent…please make it all year!

Absolutely love this body wash. Please make this all year round! I came for a visit and went to your lovely store in Tin Pan Alley in Victoria ( I hope I have that right) The scent is warm and stays slightly fragranced on my skin, with zero irritation. Many body washes irritate my skin. My husband and I both use lit. I wasn’t sure about Frankincense but this combo is superb. Did I mention that I think you should make it all year round ? LOL
